The Fruit of the Spirit: “Walk by The Spirit” (Gal. 5:16-25 )

Walk by the Spirit (vs. 16-17)
Presently walk by the Spirit
You will not gratify the desires of the flesh
why is that such a problem?
The desires of the flesh are against the Spirit
The desires of the Spirit are against the flesh (they are opposed to one another)
Who am I going to live for, and walk with?
Your desire or God’s
Lead by the Spirit (vs. 18-)
If you are led (presently) by the Spirit- this is more of a rhetorical statement than a question
The Works of the Flesh: long list, jealousy, fits of anger, envy, etc.
Those who do them will not inherit the kingdom of God
The Fruit of the Spirit: love , joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have cruficied the flesh with its passions and desires.
What will I allow to influence me?
the Flesh or the Spirit
Keep in Step with the Spirit (vs.)
If we live by the Spirit (presently)

Following the Star: “We Have Come to Worship Him” (vs. )

A Star (vs. 1-6)
Jesus- it is all about Jesus!
After he was born in Bethlehem of Judea
In the days of Herod the King
Behold
Wise Men
from the east came to Jerusalem
Saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews”
for we saw his star when it rose
and have come to Worship him
King Herod
He was Troubled
and all Jerusalem with Him
Assembles the chief priests and scribes of the people
to inquire of them
Where the Christ was to be born.
Who’s Star am I living for?
Do you see Jesus as a threat to what you want to live for?
A Secret Search (vs. 7-10)
Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared
Herod sent them to Bethlehem saying
Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him”
After listening to the king, they went on their way
behold the star rose and went before them
when they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.
Who or what will I allow to influence my life?
Herod’s search was fueled by fear
The wise men’s search ended in rejoicing and great joy
A Saviour (vs. 11-12)
Going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother
They fell down and worshiped him
opening their treasures they offered him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh
Jesus will later teach that where you heart is, there your treasure will be also. One of the ways to see where are hearts are is to see what we are offering our treasures to.
Being warned in a dream not to return to Herod
they departed to their own country by another way
How is my life different since i found Jesus?
Which way will you respond to Jesus? Worship him or be troubled because he is a threat to your way of life, your desires, your rule?
